Dual Enrollment STEM-Related Academic Courses Scholarships

Attention: 10th, 11th, and 12th grade scholars:
DUAL ENROLLMENT SCHOLARSHIPS
In response to the Legislature's expansion of opportunities that encourage a stronger employment focus for math and science teachers and other STEM-related fields in the state, the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) has expanded dual enrollment scholarships to high school students who are interested in taking college-level STEM courses through their local community college.
The scholarships, which will be awarded as early as the Fall 2021 semester, cover several classes in science, technology, engineering and math that can transfer to a four-year university and be used to complete a two-year associate degree by the time a student graduates high school. Classes in which students may receive scholarships include college-level astronomy; biology; chemistry; computer science; engineering (EGR); geology; math; physical science; and physics.
The scholarships are in addition to both local scholarships and career technical education funds that are already used to provide more opportunities to Alabama high school students to attend dual enrollment classes.
Students must have a 2.5 GPA in STEM-related academic work to qualify for the scholarship. Students must have an 18-20 ACT score. If not, they can take a placement test.
If you are interested, complete the following steps:
1. Complete an online application at www.wccs.edu.
2.Complete the Dual Enrollment application and submit to the counselor. (Application can be found on the school website under documents)
3. Complete the Dual Enrollment eligibility form and submit to the counselor. (Application can be found on the school website under documents)
4. Submit a Picture ID. If you do not have an ID, you can email a picture to the counselor.(benita.pritchett@wilcoxboe.org)
The deadline to apply is Friday, August 20th.

Attention 11th grade scholars: The Preliminary SAT, also known as the PSAT/NMSQT® (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is a practice version of the SAT exam. If you earn a high score on the PSAT your junior year, you could qualify to receive a National Merit Scholarship—$180 million dollars in merit scholarships are awarded to students each year. The PSAT is 2 hours and 45 minutes long and tests your skills in reading, writing, and math
The PSAT will be given to any interested 11th grade student at WCHS on October 13th. Spacing is limited to the first 20 students. If you are interested in taking the PSAT, submit form by Tuesday, August 17th.
